Band Bio: Kevin McWha Steele was born in St. Cloud, MN and raised in Baltimore, MD. After formally studying music and poetry in Paris and La Rochelle, France for four years, he relocated to New York City in 1999, as a fellow to Bard College's writing program (MFA candidate, poetry). Subsequently, Kevin has been writing songs and poems in many different styles in both French and English under his real name and several pseudonyms. He has received songwriting accolades from Sting, Pink, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Philip Glass, Gary Lucas, Robert Wilson, among others. His professional music credits range from session vocalist for Virgin U.K. to performing/recording with a variety of musicians, performance artists and songwriters in New York and Los Angeles, including The Southwing, The Watermill Center, The Thunderbirds, Rachel Rosenthal Company, Empire of Teeth, Magnetic Laboritorium, Puma Pearl's Pandemonium, Gary Lucas, flezaDoza, Glassworks, Stephanie McKay, Haale Gafori, Adam Matta, The Devyl Nellys, Nimesh Gandhi, The Nightly Howl, Safety First, Pete List, Djinn, Bellyqueen, Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble, Akim Funk Buddha, Swiss Chris, Rob Mastrianni, Vin Scialla, Andrew Potenza, Ravish Momin, Patrick Tully, Jennifer Zimmerman, Lauren Piquon, and his brother, the director/actor Kameron Steele. As a producer, Kevin curated the variety show, "McWha at Café Wha?" at World Famous Café Wha? in Greenwich Village, and the performance art piece "Up in the Air," at BRIC Studios in Brooklyn, NY. To date, he has released six studio albums (3 LPs, 3 EPs) and two written works: a collection of poems and song lyrics entitled, "Medawin," and a book of Tanka-inspired poetry,"The 12 Alchemists & Other Poems" - a finalist in the 2018 Fence Modern Prize in Prose for Literature Appropriate for Children, judged by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket). His poems have appeared in Promethean, Lungfull, Glimmertrain, Lit, and Fence Magazine, among others. He is currently completing his most recent release, "The Nightly Howl!", and hopes to join guitarist Gary Lucas in a 20th anniversary tribute to Jeff Buckley. Kevin lives in New York City.
